A dental crown (also called a “tooth cap” by our patients) is used to restore a tooth to its natural strength and appearance.
You may be a candidate for a dental crown if your tooth was made fragile by a large cavity, fracture, root canal therapy, or repeated dental procedures.
A front tooth crown can also be used to cover discoloration. Continue reading to learn more!
Benefits Of Dental Crowns
How Dental Crowns Repair Teeth
A dental crown covers and protects the tooth by sealing out plaque and bacteria. We use dental crowns made of porcelain because they match the color of natural tooth enamel. Porcelain crownsare also stain resistant and natural-looking enough to be used for front teeth. After your appointment, you can count on your new dental crown looking and feeling natural for years to come.
Dental Crown Procedure
We’re able to place your dental crown in two appointments. During your first appointment with us, we’ll need to remove enough enamel from the receiving tooth so there’s enough room for the crown. Otherwise, the dental crown will make your tooth look large and bulky. Next, we’ll take dental impressions and send them to the lab where your new tooth restoration will be made.
Count on your new dental crown looking and feeling natural!
Since it takes several weeks for a permanent crown to be made, we’ll place a temporary cover over your tooth. When you return for your second appointment, your permanent tooth crown will be ready. Your dentist will check the color, size, and fit of the crown and may make slight alterations so it matches the rest of your smile. Next, we’ll replace your temporary crown with the permanent one.
